Tax Preparer

Position Overview

We are seeking a Tax Preparer with 2-3 years of demonstrated experience in individual and business tax preparation for our client based in Fairfield, NJ. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in tax compliance and experience working with client portfolios in New Jersey.



Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and process federal and New Jersey state tax returns for individuals and businesses
  • Review financial records, including prior year returns, income statements, and expense documentation
  • Conduct thorough interviews with clients to gather necessary tax information and documentation
  • Identify and implement tax-saving opportunities while ensuring compliance with current tax laws
  • Handle business tax preparation including partnerships, S-corporations, and small businesses
  • Maintain current knowledge of federal and New Jersey state tax regulations and updates
  • Utilize professional tax preparation software to process returns accurately and efficiently
  • Respond to IRS and state tax authority notices and correspondence
  • Assist with tax planning and provide guidance on estimated tax payments
  • Document all client interactions and maintain organized digital files


Required Qualifications

  • 2-3 years of professional tax preparation experience
  • Demonstrated experience with business tax returns (Partnerships, S-corps, Schedule C)
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • Proficiency with professional tax preparation software
  • Strong knowledge of federal and New Jersey state tax laws
  • Excellent attention to detail and mathematical accuracy


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with New Jersey-specific business taxes and credits
  • Knowledge of QuickBooks and other accounting software


Technical Skills

  • Professional tax preparation software (Drake, UltraTax, ProSeries, or similar)
  • Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook)
  • Document management systems
  • Electronic filing systems

  • Ability to explain complex tax concepts in simple terms
