Director - Public Accounting

Compensation: $170,000-$180,000

Overview:
We're seeking a Director to lead our Department, acting as a critical liaison for client relationships and a key support for staff. This role is positioned just below partner level and offers a clear path toward partnership within two years. The Director will collaborate closely with partners to refine departmental systems, develop protocols, manage resources, and contribute to the growth and success of the firm.
Key Responsibilities:
Client Engagement & Management
- Oversee multiple client engagements in the construction services sector, ensuring projects are on track and client needs are met.
- Serve as the main point of contact for clients, developing strong, proactive relationships through regular communication and exceptional service.
- Collaborate with partners and staff to create tailored engagement plans, testing strategies, and project approaches for each client.
- Conduct pre-engagement planning meetings and end-of-audit reviews, delivering insights and actionable recommendations to client management.
- Provide hands-on support to engagements, especially during times of peak workload or understaffing, to ensure high-quality service.
Team Leadership & Staff Development
- Supervise staff at all levels, including performance reviews, guidance on technical matters, and targeted professional development.
- Delegate responsibilities based on staff skill levels, offering ongoing feedback and coaching to foster growth.
- Coordinate scheduling and staffing across multiple projects to optimize team resources and enhance client service quality.
- Play an active role in staff training, delivering hands-on guidance in assurance and tax areas and fostering an environment of continuous learning.
Technical & Assurance Engagements
- Design and manage review and compilation procedures, performing detailed reviews of workpapers and client deliverables.
- Directly engage in testing, analysis, and problem-solving for complex client issues, ensuring adherence to regulatory standards.
- Lead the preparation, coordination, and review of various tax filings and notices for clients within the construction industry.
Departmental & Firm Contributions
- Assist in the ongoing enhancement of departmental processes, leveraging technology, research, and industry insights.
- Stay updated on accounting regulations relevant to construction and real estate, applying this knowledge to improve client outcomes.
- Contribute to the firm's growth through marketing efforts, including networking and participating in outreach initiatives.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting from an accredited institution.
- Minimum of 10 years of public accounting experience, ideally in construction and real estate.
- Active CPA or CIA license, with strong knowledge of US GAAP, SSARS, and GAAS.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word; experience with ProSystem fx Engagement and CCH Tax preferred.
- Excellent communication, analytical, and interpersonal skills, with a commitment to both client success and team development.
