Senior Tax Manager

Position Overview


We are seeking an experienced tax professional to join our clients team as a Senior Tax Manager. This role combines technical expertise, client relationship management, and team leadership to deliver exceptional tax services to our diverse client base.



Technical Responsibilities



Tax Compliance & Planning

  • Lead complex tax engagements for partnerships, corporations, and individuals
  • Review and oversee preparation of:
    • Federal, state, and foreign tax returns
    • Estimated tax payments
    • Filing extensions
    • Multi-state tax compliance
  • Assist clients with federal and state tax audits
  • Develop tax planning strategies and solutions
  • Identify opportunities for tax credits and incentives
  • Monitor and implement tax law changes to benefit clients


Practice Management

  • Serve as primary engagement manager
  • Direct project workflow and timeline management
  • Oversee engagement economics including:
    • Billing oversight
    • Revenue realization
    • Collections management
  • Maximize efficiency through CCH Axcess and other tax technologies
  • Ensure team compliance with technical standards and best practices


Leadership & Client Relations



Team Development

  • Supervise and mentor 1-2 associates per engagement
  • Provide technical guidance and performance feedback
  • Foster professional growth within engagement teams
  • Support staff development in client management skills


Client Management

  • Collaborate directly with:
    • Internal: Managers, Senior Managers, and Partners
    • External: Controllers, CFOs, and C-Suite executives
  • Guide clients through complex tax decisions
  • Analyze broader business impacts of tax strategies
  • Lead client meetings and presentations


Business Development

  • Participate in networking events and industry functions
  • Contribute to proposal development
  • Support sales initiatives and client acquisition
  • Attend and represent firm at industry events


Professional Development



Training & Growth

  • Participate in annual CORE competency development program
  • Engage in continuous professional education
  • Contribute to firm's knowledge base and best practices


Firm Initiatives

  • Support recruiting efforts (campus and experienced hire)
  • Facilitate internal training sessions
  • Participate in mentoring program
  • Develop thought leadership content
  • Engage in various firm committees and initiatives


Required Qualifications



Professional Requirements

  • Active CPA license or Bar License
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting
  • 8+ years of public accounting experience
  • Comprehensive knowledge of federal and state tax laws
  • Strong proficiency in tax software and technology


Location & Travel

  • Based in or willing to relocate to Schaumburg, Illinois area
  • Regional client travel required with occasional overnight stays
  • Travel for firm-wide training and events as needed
