Senior Tax Manager / Director




We are seeking an experienced Senior Tax Manager/Director to join our clients mid-sized CPA firm in Manhattan. The ideal candidate will provide sophisticated tax planning and compliance services to high-net-worth individuals and their related entities while leading engagement teams and contributing to the firm's strategic growth.



Primary Responsibilities

  • Lead complex tax engagements for high-net-worth individuals, their families, and related business entities, including partnerships, corporations, and trusts
  • Develop and implement comprehensive tax planning strategies for clients with sophisticated financial portfolios, including investment partnerships, real estate holdings, and closely-held businesses
  • Oversee multiple engagement teams simultaneously, ensuring quality control and timely delivery of deliverables
  • Serve as a key point of contact for high-profile clients, their family offices, and their advisors
  • Direct tax research on complex issues and author technical memoranda
  • Lead the review process for complex tax returns, including Forms 1040, 1065, 1120, 1120S, and 706
  • Identify and implement tax-saving opportunities through sophisticated tax planning techniques
  • Mentor and develop managers and staff, providing technical guidance and career development support
  • Contribute to practice development initiatives and maintain strong client relationships
  • Participate in firm management decisions and strategic planning


Required Qualifications

  • 8+ years of public accounting experience with significant focus on high-net-worth individual taxation
  • CPA license and Master's degree in Taxation or equivalent
  • Comprehensive knowledge of individual, partnership, corporate, trust, and estate taxation
  • Strong technical experience with:
    • Complex investment partnerships and alternative investments
    • Real estate partnerships and Section 1031 exchanges
    • Estate and gift tax planning
    • Multi-state taxation issues
    • International tax planning and compliance
    • Family office structures and private foundations


Technical Expertise

  • Advanced knowledge of tax research platforms (RIA Checkpoint, CCH IntelliConnect, BNA)
  • Proficiency with tax preparation software (GoSystem, UltraTax, ProSystem fx Tax)
  • Experience with tax provision calculations and analysis
  • Strong understanding of tax technology and workflow optimization tools


Leadership & Communication Skills

  • Exceptional client relationship management abilities
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven ability to explain complex tax concepts to non-tax professionals
  • Strong presentation skills for client meetings and internal training
  • Demonstrated success in mentoring and developing staff
  • History of contributing to practice growth and client base expansion


Business Development

  • Track record of identifying and securing new business opportunities
  • Experience in proposal development and pitch presentations
  • Ability to expand existing client relationships through cross-selling opportunities
  • Network within the high-net-worth and family office community


Management Responsibilities

  • Direct and develop a team of tax professionals
  • Participate in staff evaluations and career development planning
  • Contribute to department budgeting and resource allocation
  • Assist in establishing and implementing firm policies and procedures
  • Collaborate with other practice areas to ensure integrated client service
