Position Overview
The Audit Supervisor will lead audit engagements for private equity and venture capital firms and their portfolio companies, providing oversight to engagement teams while serving as a key point of contact for clients. This role requires technical expertise in financial reporting, strong project management capabilities, and an understanding of the unique challenges facing PE/VC firms and their investments.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and supervise multiple audit engagements from start to finish, with particular focus on private equity, venture capital, and portfolio company clients
- Lead engagement teams of 3-5 professionals, providing guidance, reviewing work, and facilitating professional development
- Manage project timelines, budgets, and resource allocation to ensure efficient and profitable engagement execution
- Review financial statements and workpapers for compliance with GAAP, firm methodology, and professional standards
- Identify and resolve technical accounting and auditing issues specific to investment entities and their portfolio companies
- Develop and maintain strong client relationships through regular communication and industry-specific insights
- Conduct risk assessment procedures tailored to PE/VC investment structures and portfolio company operations
- Identify value-added opportunities and communicate observations and recommendations to clients
- Stay current on accounting standards and regulatory developments affecting the PE/VC industry
- Contribute to business development initiatives, including proposal preparation and client presentations
- Assist in the development of specialized audit programs and procedures for PE/VC clients
- Collaborate with tax and advisory teams to provide comprehensive service to clients
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field; Master's degree preferred
- CPA license required
- 3+ years of public accounting experience with emphasis on audit engagements
- Previous experience working with private equity or venture capital firms and their portfolio companies
- Knowledge of fund accounting, investment valuation methodologies, and carried interest calculations
- Understanding of various transaction structures and their accounting implications
- Experience with complex equity arrangements, business combinations, and purchase accounting
- Proficiency with audit software and Microsoft Office applications
- Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent project management capabilities and attention to detail
- Superior written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated leadership abilities and team development experience
