Position Overview
The Audit Manager will oversee multiple complex audit engagements for non profit organizations and/or for-profit entities, providing technical leadership, managing client relationships, and developing staff. This role requires deep expertise in audit methodologies, strong project management skills, and the ability to deliver high-quality services across diverse industries.
Key Responsibilities
- Direct and oversee multiple audit engagements simultaneously, ensuring timely completion, quality control, and adherence to professional standards
- Lead engagement planning, risk assessment, and audit strategy development for non profit and for-profit clients
- Manage engagement economics including budgeting, resource allocation, and profitability analysis
- Supervise, mentor, and evaluate audit staff and seniors to promote professional growth and technical excellence
- Review complex financial statements, footnotes, and workpapers for accuracy and compliance with GAAP and industry-specific requirements
- Identify and resolve technical accounting and auditing issues, collaborating with partners when necessary
- Build and maintain strong client relationships as a trusted advisor
- Communicate audit results, recommendations, and insights to client management and board members
- Identify opportunities for additional services and participate in cross-selling initiatives
- Contribute to business development through proposal writing, presentations, and networking activities
- Stay current on accounting standards, regulatory requirements, and industry developments
- Participate in firm initiatives, recruitment, and internal training programs
- Develop specialized audit programs and methodologies for non profit and for-profit sectors
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting required; Master's degree preferred
- Active CPA license required
- 7+ years of progressive public accounting experience with emphasis on audit
- Demonstrated experience managing non profit audits, for-profit audits, or a combination of both
- Knowledge of specialized non profit accounting principles, single audit requirements, and Form 990 reporting
- Experience with various for-profit industries (manufacturing, professional services, technology, etc.)
- Strong understanding of internal controls and risk assessment procedures
- Advanced proficiency with audit software, data analytics tools, and Microsoft Office suite
- Excellent project management skills and ability to manage multiple deadlines
- Superior written and verbal communication abilities
- Proven leadership capabilities and staff development experience
- Business development aptitude and client relationship skills
Preferred Experience
- Experience with Single Audits under Uniform Guidance
- Knowledge of specialized non profit sectors (higher education, healthcare, foundations, etc.)
- Experience with SOC examinations or other attestation engagements
- Involvement with industry associations or non profit boards
