Position Overview


The Tax Manager will lead complex tax engagements for high net worth individuals and their associated businesses, trusts, and family offices. This position requires advanced technical knowledge of individual taxation, wealth transfer strategies, and business structures, along with exceptional client relationship management skills and the ability to develop staff while driving practice growth.



Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a portfolio of high net worth individual clients with complex tax situations, including entrepreneurs, executives, multi-generational family groups, and investment professionals
  • Plan, review, and oversee the preparation of complex individual, trust, gift, and related business entity tax returns
  • Develop comprehensive tax planning strategies focusing on wealth preservation, income tax minimization, and estate planning considerations
  • Lead client consultations regarding tax implications of investment decisions, business transactions, retirement planning, and charitable giving
  • Supervise, mentor, and develop tax professionals, providing technical guidance and performance feedback
  • Research and resolve complex tax issues related to investment income, business activities, alternative investments, and multi-state taxation
  • Monitor legislative changes and assess their impact on clients' tax positions and wealth management strategies
  • Collaborate with clients' other advisors, including wealth managers, attorneys, and family office professionals
  • Identify and implement tax-saving opportunities through proactive year-round planning
  • Represent clients before tax authorities in examinations and notices
  • Contribute to business development efforts through networking, referral cultivation, and thought leadership
  • Participate in firm initiatives, including training programs, recruitment, and technology enhancements


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field required; Master's in Taxation preferred
  • Active CPA license required; additional credentials (PFS, CFP, JD) a plus
  • 6+ years of progressive public accounting experience with emphasis on high net worth individual taxation
  • Comprehensive knowledge of federal and state tax laws affecting wealthy individuals and their entities
  • Strong understanding of fiduciary income tax, gift and estate tax, and wealth transfer planning strategies
  • Experience with partnership, S-corporation, and private foundation taxation
  • Proficiency with tax research tools and professional tax software (CCH Axcess, GoSystem, UltraTax, etc.)
  • Excellent project management skills and attention to detail
  • Superior written and verbal communication abilities
  • Demonstrated ability to translate complex tax concepts into actionable client advice
  • Experience supervising professional staff and managing client relationships
  • Ability to identify cross-selling opportunities and contribute to firm growth


Preferred Experience

  • Experience with family office structures and private wealth management
  • Knowledge of international tax issues affecting U.S. citizens with foreign investments or activities
  • Background in sophisticated estate planning techniques and wealth transfer strategies
  • Experience with tax planning for equity compensation, executive benefits, and retirement distributions
