Position Overview
The Senior Tax Manager will serve as a key leader within our tax practice, managing complex engagements for affluent individuals and families while providing strategic direction to client service teams. This position requires extensive technical expertise in individual taxation, wealth preservation strategies, and business structures, combined with exceptional leadership abilities and business development skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead a dedicated team serving ultra-high net worth individuals, family groups, and their related entities
- Oversee complex tax planning and compliance projects for clients with sophisticated financial situations
- Develop and implement comprehensive tax minimization strategies addressing income, estate, gift, and generation-skipping transfer taxes
- Guide clients through significant life events and transactions with tax-efficient approaches
- Direct the preparation and review of complex individual, fiduciary, gift, and business entity tax returns
- Provide high-level technical consultation on matters involving investment structures, family office operations, and multigenerational wealth transfer
- Manage and mentor tax managers, seniors, and staff, fostering professional development and technical excellence
- Analyze proposed tax legislation and regulatory changes to identify planning opportunities and mitigate risks
- Collaborate with clients' other professional advisors including attorneys, investment managers, and trustees
- Represent clients before federal and state tax authorities on complex examination issues
- Contribute significantly to practice growth through business development initiatives, thought leadership, and client expansion
- Participate in firm management activities and strategic planning for the tax department
- Identify and implement innovative service offerings for high net worth clients
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field required; Master's in Taxation or JD preferred
- Active CPA license required; additional credentials (PFS, CFP, JD, LLM) highly valued
- 8+ years of progressive public accounting experience with significant focus on high net worth taxation
- Comprehensive knowledge of federal and multi-state individual income tax laws and regulations
- Deep expertise in estate, gift, and trust taxation, including wealth transfer strategies
- Strong understanding of business entity taxation as it relates to closely-held businesses and family investments
- Experience managing complex client relationships and supervising professional staff
- Proficiency with tax research systems and professional tax software
- Superior project management abilities and organizational skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, particularly in explaining complex tax concepts
- Demonstrated ability to develop new business and expand existing client relationships
- Experience presenting to groups and conducting client seminars
Preferred Experience
- Background in family office structures and private wealth management
- Knowledge of international tax issues affecting U.S. citizens with global investments
- Experience with charitable planning vehicles (private foundations, donor-advised funds, etc.)
- Familiarity with sophisticated estate planning techniques and asset protection strategies
