Position Overview
The Audit Supervisor serves as a critical link between Audit Seniors and Managers, taking on increased responsibilities in engagement planning, team leadership, and client relationship management. This role offers significant opportunities for professional growth and advancement within the firm, with a clear pathway to Manager for high performers. The ideal candidate combines strong technical expertise with developing leadership skills and business acumen.
Key Responsibilities
Engagement Leadership
- Manage multiple concurrent audit engagements of moderate to high complexity
- Develop comprehensive audit plans, risk assessments, and strategies for efficient engagement execution
- Lead fieldwork for assigned engagements, ensuring adherence to professional standards and firm methodology
- Identify, research, and resolve technical accounting and auditing issues with appropriate supervision
- Review audit workpapers, financial statements, and deliverables for quality and compliance
- Monitor engagement progress against budget and timeline constraints
- Draft technical memos addressing complex accounting matters
- Prepare and review financial statements, footnotes, and required disclosures
Team Management & Development
- Supervise, direct, and mentor audit seniors and staff accountants
- Provide constructive real-time feedback and formal performance evaluations
- Delegate tasks effectively based on team member capabilities and developmental needs
- Foster a collaborative team environment that encourages professional growth
- Support recruitment efforts and help integrate new team members
- Contribute to training programs and knowledge sharing initiatives
Client Relationship Management
- Serve as a key point of contact for client management during engagements
- Effectively communicate audit findings, recommendations, and technical matters to clients
- Identify and communicate potential business issues, risks, and opportunities to engagement managers
- Anticipate client needs and respond promptly to inquiries
- Participate in client proposal meetings and presentations as appropriate
- Identify potential advisory service opportunities within existing client relationships
Practice Development
- Contribute to the growth and development of the firm's audit practice
- Participate in industry-specific initiatives and specialized service development
- Represent the firm at professional and community events
- Support proposal development and prospect meetings
- Stay current on emerging industry trends and regulatory changes
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field
- Active CPA license in Connecticut (or ability to obtain through reciprocity)
- 5-7 years of progressive public accounting experience with emphasis on audit engagements
- Comprehensive knowledge of GAAP, GAAS, and other relevant professional standards
- Experience supervising engagement teams and reviewing work products
- Strong project management skills with ability to manage multiple priorities
- Excellent analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities
- Superior written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency with audit software and Microsoft Office applications
Preferred
- Master's degree in Accounting or related field
- Experience with clients in key Connecticut industries
- Advanced proficiency with audit tools including CCH Engagement, Caseware, or similar platforms
- Experience with specialized audit areas (e.g., employee benefit plans, single audits)
- Involvement in firm initiatives beyond client service
