Position Summary


Our client is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced CPA-licensed Senior Accountant to join their growing public accounting firm in Reston, Virginia. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing complex accounting engagements, supervising junior staff, and providing exceptional client service across various industries. Essential Duties and Responsibilities


Client Services & Engagement Management

  • Plan, execute, and supervise audit, review, and compilation engagements for clients ranging from small businesses to mid-market companies
  • Prepare and review complex financial statements in accordance with GAAP, IFRS, and other applicable frameworks
  • Conduct risk assessments and develop audit strategies tailored to client-specific circumstances
  • Manage engagement timelines, budgets, and deliverables to ensure quality and timeliness
  • Serve as primary client contact for assigned engagements, maintaining strong professional relationships


Tax Services

  • Prepare and review federal, state, and local tax returns for corporations, partnerships, LLCs, and high-net-worth individuals
  • Research complex tax issues and provide technical guidance on tax planning strategies
  • Assist clients with tax compliance, estimated payments, and year-end planning
  • Stay current with changing tax laws and regulations affecting clients


Staff Development & Supervision

  • Supervise and mentor junior accountants and interns
  • Review work papers, financial statements, and tax returns prepared by staff
  • Provide constructive feedback and training to develop team members' technical skills
  • Participate in staff evaluations and professional development planning


Business Development & Client Relations

  • Identify opportunities for additional services within existing client relationships
  • Participate in proposal preparation and client presentations
  • Represent the firm at networking events and professional organizations
  • Contribute to the firm's growth through referrals and relationship building


Quality Control & Compliance

  • Ensure all work complies with professional standards (GAAS, GAAP, AICPA Code of Conduct)
  • Participate in the firm's quality control processes and peer reviews
  • Maintain detailed and organized work papers and documentation
  • Support annual inspections by regulatory bodies


Required Qualifications


Education & Certification

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required
  • Master's degree in Accounting or MBA preferred
  • Active CPA license in Virginia (or ability to obtain reciprocity within 6 months)
  • 150 credit hours completed to meet CPA education requirements


Experience

  • Minimum 4-6 years of public accounting experience
  • Demonstrated experience with audit, tax, and compilation engagements
  • Experience supervising junior staff members
  • Knowledge of multiple industries preferred (construction, healthcare, non-profit, manufacturing)


Technical Skills

  • Proficiency in accounting software (QuickBooks, Sage, NetSuite)
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Experience with audit software (CaseWare, Engagement, or similar)
  • Tax software proficiency (ProSystem fx, Lacerte, or similar)
  • Knowledge of financial reporting standards and tax regulations

  • Experience with data analytics tools and emerging technologies
  • Bilingual capabilities (Spanish preferred given Northern Virginia demographics)


Working Conditions & Physical Requirements

  • Standard office environment with occasional client site visits
  • Ability to work extended hours during busy seasons (January-April, September-October)
  • Travel to client locations within the greater Washington, DC metropolitan area
  • Lifting and carrying of files and materials up to 25 pounds
  • Extended periods of computer work and detailed review
