Position Overview


Our client is seeking an exceptional CPA-licensed Tax Manager to lead their ultra-high net worth (UHNW) and high net worth (HNW) tax practice. This senior-level position requires a seasoned tax professional with extensive experience managing complex tax matters for affluent individuals, families, and their related entities. The successful candidate will oversee client relationships, lead technical tax initiatives, and drive the strategic growth of the high net worth practice while managing a team of tax professionals.



Key Responsibilities



Client Relationship Management

  • Serve as primary relationship manager for a portfolio of UHNW/HNW clients with complex tax needs
  • Develop and maintain long-term strategic relationships with clients and their professional advisory teams
  • Lead client meetings, presentations, and strategic tax planning sessions
  • Coordinate with estate planning attorneys, wealth managers, investment advisors, and family office personnel
  • Ensure exceptional client service delivery and proactive communication across all engagements


Tax Strategy & Planning

  • Design and implement sophisticated tax planning strategies for individuals with net worth exceeding $10M
  • Analyze complex business transactions, investment structures, and succession planning opportunities
  • Provide strategic guidance on tax-efficient wealth transfer techniques and estate planning strategies
  • Evaluate multi-generational tax planning opportunities including dynasty trusts and family limited partnerships
  • Advise on tax implications of private equity investments, hedge fund structures, and alternative investments


Technical Leadership & Compliance

  • Oversee preparation and review of complex individual, trust, estate, partnership, and corporate tax returns
  • Manage multi-state and multi-jurisdictional tax compliance requirements
  • Handle sophisticated entity structures including private foundations, charitable remainder trusts, and family offices
  • Ensure compliance with international tax reporting requirements (FBAR, FATCA, Form 8938, Form 3520)
  • Research and resolve complex technical tax issues and regulatory matters


Team Leadership & Development

  • Lead and mentor a team of senior associates, associates, and seasonal staff
  • Provide technical guidance and training on advanced tax concepts and UHNW client service
  • Conduct performance evaluations and develop career advancement plans for team members
  • Foster a collaborative team environment focused on excellence and continuous improvement
  • Oversee workflow management and resource allocation during peak seasons


Business Development & Growth

  • Identify opportunities to expand services within existing UHNW client relationships
  • Participate in networking events and professional organizations to build referral relationships
  • Collaborate with partners on business development initiatives and client retention strategies
  • Contribute to thought leadership through speaking engagements and technical publications
  • Support proposal development and new client onboarding processes


Required Qualifications



Education & Licensing

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • Active CPA license in New Jersey (required)
  • Master's degree in Taxation strongly preferred


Experience

  • Minimum 6+ years of progressive public accounting experience with focus on individual and entity taxation
  • Extensive experience working with UHNW clients (net worth $10M+) and complex family structures
  • Proven track record of managing multiple high-value client relationships simultaneously
  • Experience leading and developing tax professionals in a public accounting environment
  • Demonstrated expertise in sophisticated tax planning and compliance for high net worth individuals


Technical Expertise

  • Advanced knowledge of federal and state tax codes, particularly as they apply to high net worth individuals
  • Deep understanding of trust and estate taxation, including generation-skipping transfer tax
  • Experience with international tax matters and foreign reporting requirements
  • Expertise in partnership taxation, S-corporation elections, and complex entity structures
  • Knowledge of gift and estate tax planning strategies and valuation issues


Preferred Qualifications



Professional Development

  • Enrolled Agent (EA) designation or Personal Financial Specialist (PFS) credential
  • Advanced certificates in taxation or estate planning
  • Active participation in professional organizations (AICPA, state CPA society, estate planning councils)


Specialized Experience

  • Experience with private equity, hedge funds, and alternative investment structures
  • Knowledge of New York, Connecticut, and Florida state tax laws
  • Familiarity with family office operations and multi-generational planning
  • Experience with tax provision work and consolidated return preparation
  • Background in mergers and acquisitions tax planning
