Tax Manager

Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Tax Manager with an active CPA license to join our growing team. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing complex tax engagements, supervising junior staff, and building strong client relationships while ensuring the highest quality of service delivery across both office locations.
Key Responsibilities
Tax Preparation & Compliance
- Prepare and review complex federal and state tax returns for individuals, partnerships, corporations, S-corporations, trusts, and estates
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations and filing requirements
- Research complex tax issues and provide technical guidance on tax matters
- Handle multi-state tax issues and coordinate filings across various jurisdictions
- Manage tax provision work and quarterly estimated tax payment calculations
Client Management & Advisory Services
- Serve as primary point of contact for assigned client portfolio
- Develop and maintain strong client relationships through regular communication and proactive service
- Provide strategic tax planning and consulting services to minimize client tax liabilities
- Participate in client meetings and present tax strategies and recommendations
- Respond to IRS and state tax authority notices and inquiries
- Coordinate with other professionals (attorneys, financial advisors, etc.) on client matters
Team Leadership & Development
- Supervise, mentor, and develop junior tax staff and seasonal preparers
- Review work performed by staff accountants and senior associates
- Provide technical training and guidance on tax preparation and research
- Participate in staff performance evaluations and professional development planning
- Assist with recruiting and interviewing potential team members
Practice Development & Operations
- Identify opportunities for additional services and business development
- Assist with proposal preparation and new client onboarding
- Participate in firm marketing activities and professional networking events
- Support firm operational initiatives and process improvement efforts
- Maintain current knowledge of tax law changes and developments
Required Qualifications
Education & Certification
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- Active CPA license in New Jersey and/or New York (or ability to obtain within 6 months)
- Minimum 5-7 years of public accounting experience in taxation
Technical Skills
- Expert knowledge of federal and state tax regulations and compliance requirements
- Proficiency with tax preparation software (UltraTax, ProSystems fx, or similar)
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and other MS Office applications
- Experience with QuickBooks and other accounting software platforms
- Knowledge of tax research tools (RIA, CCH, BNA, etc.)

- Enrolled Agent (EA) designation
- Previous supervisory or management experience in public accounting
